Monotyp

The monotyp is a unique impression. Invented by Castiglionne in the XVII th century.
The artist paints with care or freely on a smooth surface, he juxtaposes, cuts, superimposes, uses the materials and draws. He transforms, paints and corrects freely before printing his work on a paper with a press.

Printing in the workshop

Rigorous engraving techniques have not left a of place for this "eccentric" technique. It is in the XIX century with the explosion of impressionists that artists experimented these new possibilities. They discovered some possibilities, but also encountered many other difficulties.

This technique made today is part of contemporary expression " the expression of the impression ". William Blake, Picasso, Renoir, Monet, Degas, Chagall, Jim Dine, Sam Francis, Hokney.. ... have used these processes.
